Changes to the search period for Highly Skilled Migrants: more flexibility

As of 1 July 2016, Highly Skilled Migrants who quit their jobs are granted a three-month search period to look for another job as a Highly Skilled Migrant. Before, a search period was only granted if the employer had terminated the contract and the migrant was not to blame for this termination.

Under the new policy, Highly Skilled Migrants are entitled to a search period if the contract is terminated prematurely, regardless of the reasons for the termination. Highly Skilled Migrants are not entitled to the search period if their employment contract is terminated by operation of law.

If a Highly Skilled Migrant makes use of the three-month search period but does not find another job as a Highly Skilled Migrant before the end of the three months, the residence permit will be revoked.
